Should Roguelike Deckbuilders be overwhelming?

Short answer, no; long answer, kinda. 

Let me explain: these games are built with replayability in mind, they are complex and challeging, especially when starting out. The mechanics are supposed to be plenty, in order to give the players many tools find cool synergies and build different strategies. The randomness of it all is supposed to make each run different from the previous one. 

Now, does this mean you should feel overwhelmed when playing? Maybe a little, at first, if you ignore the tutorials. 

What we figured is that MOST players (even ones that had prior experience with games in the genre) were thrown off by our previous tutorial. It was too long, too dense and more often than not left the players unsure of what they just learned. So, we redesigned the tutorial to make it shorter, lighter, and in a way that better eases the players into the game logic.

We see you struggling out there, and to be honest, it's our bad.

The monsters were a tiny bit overtuned in the previous build of the game. We like a challenge, but sometimes when randomness gets too much in the way it just feels unfair. So, since there's already plenty of randomness in card games, we decided to slightly nerf the monsters on first battle of the run (they will no longer generate face cards, which are impossible to 1hit when starting out).
